Prayer is an action word. Before we approach the scene of prayer, the Christian should seek to ensure that all unknown sins have been confessed to God. It is God through the Holy Spirit who provides victory. When we appeal to God without a troubled conscience, don’t we feel better Spiritually and even mentally?
Oftentimes, we feel unworthy to approach God, because of some mistake we have made. That is okay, because it is a recognition that we are unworthy because of the mistake we might have made, but God accepts when we humbly recognize our error, and place our trust in Him.
My dearly beloved, it is in affliction that Satan has control of our minds. That is the reason we need to take all to God. As the scripture implores us to do to do in Isaiah 1:18.19 “Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow. Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.”. God alone can save us from our sins, so why not go to Him in humble prayer knowing that He is faithful to His promises. Deep humility of soul before God is necessary, as we rely upon the merits of the blood of Christ, who alone can save us.
Ernest prayers are used to bring the forces of heaven to war with the evil forces of earth. So before engaging in prayer, reading the words God, prepare to seek His deliverance by fortifying our minds with His promises.
P.S. Here are some scriptures to help you prepare Spiritually for prayer to God: Isaiah 41:10, Psalm 91, Nahum 1:7, Matthew 6:9-13, Jeremiah 1:19, 15:20,21, 1John 4:4. Psalm 6:4, Psalm50:14,15 and Psalm 27:5-8.
The Psalmist states in chapter 66:18 nkjv, that “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear.” When Christians read or hear those words, they grow frustrated with their lack of understanding of what this text really means.
Iniquity in our heart is the only barrier we have true fellowship with God. The cherished sins that we have, are those we love, value, and hold onto despite how much God speaks to our hearts. We often see sin as only behaviour or physical actions, but it should be defined relative to our relationship with God.
Sin, my dearly beloved separates us from God, because sin is not in His character. Our relationship with God is broken because of sin, so because we are not connected with Him, we do things contrary to His nature.
Could this separation be present because we are ignoring God’s will for us. Is this the reason for this feeling of separation, which leads us to conclude that the Lord is not hearing us?
This lack of confidence that God is not hearing us, shakes us up and disrupts the assurance that we would otherwise feel when we talk with God. For us as Christians, this naturally disrupts our prayer life and causes us to feel alone.
In Psalm 66:19 nkjv, David with confidence states, “But certainly, God has attended to the voice of my prayer.” My dearly beloved, we can feel forgiven, pray, and walk in confidence with God, when we are certain (having resolved our relationship with Him) that we are forgiven. Be confident that your sins are forgiven, and that God loves you with an everlasting love! He longs to hear from you!
